Golden Empire Sams RV Club

Are you one of the thousands of RV owners feeling guilty that you haven’t gotten your RV on the road once in 2022? Did you tell yourselves that 2023 would be better? Well we can help you but time is running out. We are the Golden Empire Sams RV Club centered in the Northern Foothills around the Grass Valley/Auburn area. We typically host 9 trips during the year March-November. You still have time to join us! Our next available camp out will be September 10th-14th at Berry Creek Rancheria RV Park, Oroville, Ca. Sierra Nevada Canoe and Kayak Club (SNCKC)

This group of flat water kayakers and a few canoe enthusiasts meet almost every fourth Thursday at Seamans Lodge in Pioneer Park (427 Nimrod Street) in Nevada City. A self-rescue training takes place in August, Lake Natoma potluck lunch paddle in November and holiday party in December. Meeting time is 6 or 6:30 p.m. depending on whether there is a potluck that night or not. Our monthly programs entertain, educate and give members and guests the opportunity to socialize and share knowledge of places, equipment and paddle skills to enhance their water adventures. Weather permitting we have several local one-day paddles each month. Through October we also usually have a several-day car camping paddle trip each month. There are some activities that will probably appeal to you and your boat. We welcome those who love the sport of paddling. If that’s you, then please join us. Gold Country Yacht Club

Gold Country Yacht Club is an All Hands on Deck, family friendly group of boating enthusiasts located on Scotts Flat Lake in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The area boasts several fine lakes and easy access to Lake Tahoe and the San Francisco Bay Area. Though members sail the year-round in various locations, the principal anchorage during the summer months is Scotts Flat Lake, situated on Deer Creek approximately five miles north of Nevada City.

Twin Cities Church

GOLD COUNTRY WELCOME CLUB

The Welcome Club is a social organization open to all residents of Nevada County – both couples and singles. There are many opportunities to get involved by joining the various activity groups such as book clubs, card groups, woodworkers, etc. The rotating Wine and Dine group is one of the best ways to meet new people. Couples/singles take turns hosting dinners over a period of a few months, and then rotate into a new group. Good news! Congregate meals are being served again each Tuesday and Thursday in the Nevada City Senior Apartments dining room (841 Old Tunnel Rd., Grass Valley). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, meal deliveries are made to clients’ homes, along with a grocery food bag once a month. Many nutritious, tasty meals are homemade by our own kitchen staff. Nevada County Camera Club

Jump into summer with a new photography exhibit, “Beaches” by Ann Westling at the Edward Jones office on 580 Brunswick Rd, Suite 200 in Grass Valley. Exhibit opens on Friday afternoon, June 23 with a reception from 4:00 -6:00 pm. Nevada County Camera Club meets monthly to share information on ways members can improve their photography. Guest speakers give presentations while members share their photographs for critiques.

This is a bright and breezy collection of photos celebrating beaches — everything from surfing dogs to sunsets and swimming with sea turtles. Grab your boogie board and join us for some surf music and beach themed-refreshments. “This is my first exhibit. I photograph subjects that I love and anything beach related is on that list. As a newer photographer, I would like to give Nevada County Camera Club credit for wonderful coaching and critiques as one starts down the photography path,” stated Westling.

Gold Country Kiwanis

On June 8th , Gold Country Kiwanis held their Nonprofits Donation Day. Janice’ Moule presented as to Make-A-Wish and Center for the Arts. In person representatives for their non-profit organizations were: Jenny Darlington for Music in the Mountains; Melinda Douros for Child Advocates of Nevada County; Jennifer Cordova for Nevada County Habitat for Humanity and Julie Hardin for In-Concert Sierra.

As work on the new Community Senior Center progresses, GCSS continues to meet the increasing need among seniors in our area with Meals on Wheels. We will also continue to offer a drive-through collection through June, available on the same days from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. at the Nevada City Senior Apartments, 841 Old Tunnel Rd., Grass Valley. Retired Public Employees Association

The Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA) was founded in 1958. RPEA is an association focused on protecting retirement benefits for all public employees (retired or currently employed) and their beneficiaries. RPEA is supported by membership dues and is the only statewide association representing ALL CalPERS members.

Meetings are held the second Thursday each month with a short meeting, lunch and local speakers or entertainment at 12 Noon at the Trail Blazer Pizza Restaurant in Alta Sierra. If interested in attending or for more information, please call 530-470-9141.

The Forever Young Senior Chorus

The Forever Young Senior Chorus is back into the flow — of music of course. We are rehearsing weekly, learning new songs, reprising old ones, and preparing for our summer program, including the Nevada County Fair in August. We welcome newcomers — those who enjoy singing in the shower or with the radio, especially those oldies and goodies. No experience or musical background required. There is no auditioning, you check us out. The only requirements: you must be 60 to 100 years of age and have the desire to bring joy to others with music. We meet at Eskaton on Ridge Road, Grass Valley, in the 49er room, on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The chorus is under the auspices of the Falls Prevention Coalition and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation. Remember: Seniors who sing have fewer falls! The Craft Guild of Nevada County

The Craft Guild of Nevada County is now taking applications for Vendors for their Winterfaire Craft Show at the Nevada County Fairgrounds on November 4th & 5th, 2023. The deadline is October 1, 2023. They are also seeking Artists or Craftworkers that would be interested in conducting a hands-on DIY class or workshop that would be available to all members of the community to promote the many benefits that creating art provides. Gold Country CAL Alumni Association

Our Board Meeting and Luncheon will be on Tuesday, August 23 at the Asian Gardens Restaurant in Grass Valley (also on Zoom). Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 535

The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of American welcomes any Vietnam era Veteran presently residing in Nevada, Yuba and Placer Counties to join us at one of our monthly meetings. We meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Grass Valley. Our current members represent all branches of the military and we are anxious to welcome all who served during the Vietnam War era. Our meetings are a great way to keep in touch, share memories, and give support to our members.

Guitars for Veterans

A new chapter of Guitars for Veterans has started in Grass Valley and is seeking volunteers to teach beginning guitar to veterans. The organization currently operates 110 chapters throughout the US, and is focused on providing guitar lessons to veterans who may be suffering from PTSD. The program has proven to be highly successful, providing instruction as musical therapy, and had helped many veterans cope with issues of concentration, focus, alienation and depression. Lessons are held at the Nevada County Veterans affairs office in Grass Valley. Veterans Service Officer David West was instrumental in the opening of the chapter. Newcomers Club of Nevada County: “A Women’s Social and Charitable Organization”

Since the establishment of the club in 1954, the Newcomers Club has welcomed all women residing in Nevada County. Has smoking pot stopped being fun? Some of us have found marijuana controls our lives. Our dreams go up in smoke … Marijuana Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share experience, strength and hope with each other that we may solve our common problem and help others recover from marijuana addiction. American Association of University Women (AAUW)

For over 75 years, the AAUW Nevada County Branch’s mission has been to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. In addition, we provide educational and enrichment opportunities for our members through 11 Interest Groups. Gamblers Anonymous

The High Nooners chapter of Gamblers Anonymous meets from noon to 2 p.m. Mondays at the Nevada City United Methodist Church, 433 Broad St. in Nevada City. Thousands of people who have created problems due to excessive gambling have found the strength to quit by joining Gamblers Anonymous (G.A.). Diabetes Support Group

Dutch Flat Church

It is open mic night in Dutch Flat, from 7 pm to 10 pm. The League of Women Voters of Nevada County

The League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government. We work at the local, state and national level to protect voting rights, promote voter responsibility, and to raise understanding of major policy issues. The League does not support or oppose any political party or candidate. However, we do educate and advocate on issues based on League positions established after members have studied an issue and achieved consensus. National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)

Nevada County Genealogical Society

We meet the second Tuesday of each month in the Community Room of the Madelyn Helling Library starting at 1 PM. We have a brief business meeting followed by a speaker. CalRTA, Nevada County — Division 51

Organized in 1929, the primary purpose of CalRTA is to protect and advocate for retired and active educator’s pensions and other retirement benefits, and to support education in our communities. We work closely with CalSTRS safeguarding the future for teachers both at the state and national legislative level to protect and improve teacher’s benefits. With more than 34,000 members in 86 local divisions, we are a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that takes positions on ballot issues but does not endorse candidates for political office at any level. Many of the 190 CalRTA Nevada County – Division 51 members are volunteers in the classroom and in the community.

Our local division gives a $500 to $1,000 scholarship each year to a prospective future teacher at California State University in Chico. $100 teacher grants are awarded in Nevada County schools each year--given to supplement the classroom budget. In 2022 we awarded 37 teacher grants.

The first full week in November is the week of the Retired Teacher--we host a breakfast reception at a local restaurant for newly retired teachers in Nevada County. In March or April we hold a Pre-Retirement Workshop for Nevada County teachers to help them plan their future. In May we provide a gift to teachers in all Nevada County schools on the Day of the Teacher.

Many Nevada County members attend a luncheon meeting held five times a year—we are currently meeting at the Madelyn Helling at the Nevada County Government Center in Nevada City and enjoy a speaker or program. These meetings are held on the second Monday in March, May, August, October and December. We ask the members attending to bring a jar or two of peanut butter. A label is attached to each jar saying it is provided by the California Retired Teachers of Nevada County—these are then given to Interfaith Ministries Food Bank to feed the homeless. We are proud to report that over the last seven years we have donated over 1,000 jars.

The Nevada County Healing Through Loss and Grief Support Group

We meet at the FREED office, 2059 Nevada City Highway, Suite 104 in Grass Valley. Anyone who has experienced a significant emotional loss, whether current or from the past, is welcome. Marin Men’s Brunch Bunch

Retired Men, formerly from Marin County, are invited to join monthly Brunch meeting at Tofanelli’s Bistro in Grass Valley on the fourth Tuesday at 11:30 PM. The Grass Valley Male Voice Choir, a direct descendant of the Cornish miners’ choirs, invites men to make music in the company of a great group of men who love to sing. Penguin Swim Club

The Penguin Swim Club, US Masters Swimming (USMS) is now swimming early morning hours at the new Memorial Park Pool. We would like to get the word out. Our club has been in existence in the community in one iteration or another for four decades. We are an adult (18+) swim organization under the national USMS program. Our hours at Memorial are MWF 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 7 — 11 a.m. Saturday. We are a membership club.

Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group

Peripheral neuropathy, a result of damage to the peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in the hands and feet. It can be very painful and can also affect other areas of the body. For more information on the next meeting, call 530-268-1017.

Gold Country Trails Council (GCTC)

GCTC is a nonprofit organization that was formed in 1981 to develop, maintain and protect non-motorized recreational trails in the Tahoe National Forest and the Sierra Foothills area for public use and enjoyment. Retired Public Employee Association (RPEA) was founded in 1958, RPEA is an association focused on protecting retirement benefits for all public employees (retired or currently employed) and their beneficiaries. The Grass Valley Foothill Lions Club

We are a local club dedicated to getting like-minded cyclists together to explore the less traveled roads of our beautiful area on two wheels. Free Dementia Support Group

Cascades of Grass Valley, an independent, assisted living and memory care community located at 415 Sierra College Drive, is hosting a Coffee and Conversation Support Group for friends and family members of loved ones living with dementia. Golden Empire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center’s Auxiliary

We are in need of more members. The Auxiliary first started at the County Hospital in Nevada City and came to Grass Valley Convalescent Hospital with the first administrator when the County Hospital closed and Golden Empire opened its doors. The Auxiliary provides many services. Catholic services are offered every week, ceramics are made every week by both members for sale and residents, as therapy. Non-denominal chapel services are provided every week. Visitation is done by members and more visitors are always needed. Some residents are from out of the area and have no one to visit them. The Auxiliary makes favors for the food trays of those who must eat in their room and assists with the dressing and grooming for a formal ball held for the residents every April. They host an Ice Cream Social with live music every June and provide pies for the residents’ Thanksgiving Dinner, usually held before Thanksgiving for residents and their families. Each December the Auxiliary provides homemade cookies, small gifts for the residents before Christmas and more. There are never too many people to help provide our services. The Auxiliary meets at 10:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month, except July and August, in the dining room of the Center. Hot Breakfast Club

The First Baptist Church is offering a free hot breakfast to Nevada Union High School students on the first Wednesday of each month throughout the academic year. Food is served from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. along with “drinks and fun.” The church is located at 1866 Ridge Rd., across from NUHS. In addition to a hot breakfast, which often includes pancakes, breakfast burritos or French toast, a selection of doughnuts, cereals, coffee, tea and juice will always be available. Locally we contribute regularly to the KARE Crisis Nursery and the Interfaith Food Ministry and just recently made and donated over 100 Port Pals given to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and the Grass Valley Dialysis Center to be provided to their cancer patients with chemo ports.

S.L.A.A., is a fellowship based on the 12 step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. This self-help fellowship is open to people of any age or sexual preference. Members include those who suffer from a compulsive need for sex, those with a desperate attachment to one person, and those who have a compulsive need to avoid sexual or emotional attachments. What all members have in common is an obsessive/compulsive pattern, either sexual or emotional (or both), in which relationships or activities have become increasingly destructive to all areas of their lives – career, family, and sense of self-respect. The Tapestry Network of Nevada County

We have just celebrated our 7th anniversary in Nevada County. This Christian business networking chapter serves Nevada County’s local nonprofits while promoting each other in business. Part of our recent growth is the expansion, adding a Christian Bookstore in our downtown Grass Valley location. Their store includes Christian jewelry as well as books from local authors. The organization showcases authors as guest speakers and will have book signings along with the regular book sales of office hours Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Our monthly fundraisers normally take place on the second Thursday of each month. Nordic Skiers of Nevada County

We promote back-country skiing and snowshoeing for its members and the community. The club sponsors trips and monthly club meetings the first Thursday of every winter month. The Gold Country Miniature Society

We enjoy making doll houses and doll house accessories. We build miniatures in all scales and have a variety of interesting projects throughout the year. Nevada City Inner Wheel Club

Our clubs are all over the country as well as all over the world. First club founded in England in 1924. We are on e of the largest women’s service clubs in the world. Our District 519 has about 10 different clubs mostly in and around Sacramento. We meet about five times a year. This year District 519 held their Annual Founders Day Luncheon celebrating 94 years in existence. Our guest speakers were ladies from “Canine Companions for Independence.” They spoke about their organization and how they helped the disabled. They brought three gold labs and an 8 week old black lab. An older lady who was wheelchair bound demonstrated many things her dog could do for her and all with one word commands. Families and Friends of People with Memory Loss

An ongoing support group, “Families and Friends of People with Memory Loss,” meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at Eskaton Village. The group is facilitated by Barbara Larsen, the creator and author of Movement with Meaning. Larson has been working in the field of dementia care for 30 years and is the chair and founding member of the Elder-Care Providers’ Coalition of Nevada County. Meetings include tips on how to communicate effectively with a loved one or friend with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. Information on local resources is also available.

We are an international fraternal organization for women 18 years or older, who are related by birth or marriage to Shriner, Master Mason or Daughter of the Nile, or is a majority member in good standing of a Masonic-related organization for girls; or who was a patient, with or without Shrine or Masonic relationship, at a Shriners Hospital for Children. Established in 1962, the Roamin’ Angels Car Club is an icon both within the hobby and the community. The Nevada County Fencing Club

The Nevada County Fencing Club will begin its Summer 2023 session of Olympic-style fencing instruction beginning Monday, May 22nd, at the Grass Valley Veteran’s Building, 255 S Auburn St, Grass Valley, in the main auditorium. The 8 week session meets Monday evenings from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels are available for ages 8 to adult. New students can begin up to the 3rd week of this session. All equipment is provided. Cost is $70.00 per session, with a once-a year $10 insurance fee that starts August 1st , 2023. Gold Country Celtic Society

The Gold Country Celtic Society is pleased to welcome George Husaruk, the Artistic Director of the Grass Valley Male Voice Choir, at our upcoming gathering.
