BorgWarner, a global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, has announced its first integrated drive module (iDM) business in China. The company is supplying Li Auto with its advanced iDM220 for the company’s new energy vehicles. This marks a significant expansion of BorgWarner’s partnership with Li Auto.

The iDM220 is currently installed in two of Li Auto’s model-lines, including the L8 and L9 range-extended electric vehicle (REEV). Designed to meet diverse installation adaptations, the iDM220 provides scalable, modular architecture and is expected to power smart, efficient, and reliable mobility solutions.

Operating at 400V, the iDM220 is capable of delivering over 200 kW of maximum power and an estimated peak torque of 4500 Nm. It offers high efficiency, smooth and quiet operation, and exceptional performance. The module incorporates an electric motor with a compact, hairpin-wound stator and an outer diameter of 220 mm. It also features an integrated off-axis gearbox and a 400V silicon-based inverter, reducing the weight and size of the entire system.

All subsystems used in the iDM are part of BorgWarner’s technology portfolio and are available as either a fully integrated module or as stand-alone solutions for new energy vehicles. The iDM is produced at BorgWarner’s Wuhan plant in China, using inverters from the Suzhou plant. Furthermore, BorgWarner’s Tianjin plant indirectly supplies the traction motor and generator motor for the front axle on Li Auto’s L7, L8, and L9.

This collaboration between BorgWarner and Li Auto underscores the commitment to advancing sustainable mobility in China. BorgWarner’s expertise in electrification solutions will contribute to Li Auto’s future sustainability capabilities in the market.
